Results of the 'Cheetah Run' 4 mile race - Thurs 20th May 2010

The summer arrived just in time for this unique race in Fota Wildlife Park. With the fine weather, the park looked great while the race itself attracted around 630 entrants. As races go, that is a huge entry and just goes to show how big events can get if the location is attractive.

The video below shows the race just a few hundred metres after the start and it's suprising how long it takes the field to pass even at this early stage.

Another video below......again, it's suprising to see how long it takes 600+ runners to pass on a narrow course even just after the start. This video clip shows the start and some of the front runners near the 3 mile mark.

Results.........the provisional results are now available on the Eagle AC website.

Photos......there is a slideshow of 198 photos HERE

Great race, brilliantly organised and what an evening and location! Great preview John as was my 1st time running and those tracks are narrow.

  2. Anyone know where the 2 geese at the start of the YouTube clip placed? They got off to a storming start!

  3. What a fantastic event. Fair play to Fota and Eagle and an unbelievable amount of runners. That was a nasty drag at the end up past the Ostriches, but a nice downhill finish. Great course, great race.

  5. I went to the 'Cheetah Run' as a spectator and enjoyed the unique experience of seeing people run alongside zebras, ostriches,... Here are about 200 of my photos from the event, meticulously tagged with bib numbers and searchable: http://bit.ly/20-5-2010

  7. As a female runner I feel I must voice my dissapointment at what was blatent discrimination at the prizes awarded in this race. Why were there only two prizes in each catogory for the ladies whilst there were three for the men ? also there was only one prize for female o/50 whilst the men continued with 3 prizes in each section up to and including 0/60. This is surely dicrimination on both sex and age from Cork's so called "friendliest running club".I am not old enough yet to qualify for these prizes but soon will be.To follow on this then with NO "spot prizes" is a bit much for 10 Euro surely Fota could have trown in a few "Family Pass" as spots etc or are they just in it for the money ?? Over 600 runners is over 6000 Euro and by any standard the prizes were mean however worthy the cause.

  8. Definitely the most exciting course - really interesting scenery all the time. However the shortage of water on such a hot night was a shame. I am not sure how many there was water for but I was a good bit from the end and it was gone before I finished.

  9. I totally agree with that woman about the category prizes and no team prizes and i feel a cup of tea and a biscuit is not good enough for such a big club not even a sandwich .I ran the midleton race recently and i must say they set a high standard for other clubs to follow regarding their prizes in all category and spot prizes and surely eagle at such a big club could make alot more effort ,they seriously need to look at this next year as alot of people will not support . 10. I was looking to run my first race in the next few weeks and after reading your preview (literally hours before) decided the Cheetah Run sounded like an excellent option. It lived up to my expectations and more. Fantastic event. So pleased I ran it. Thanks John.

  11. I have to agree with Flatfoot Mary and the other lady but what really annoyed me was being told I had to pay for a sandwich with my cup of tea after.A cup of tea and broken biscuits is not good enough especially when added to the bad prizes as Mary outlined.Maybe it should be renamed the "Cheater Run"
    LOL
