2008 Cork City Marathon - 8,000 entries expected -
There was a piece in the Irish Examiner recently about the Cork City Marathon next year. The organisers of the race have recieved very good feedback from the 2007 event and expect the 2008 race to be a lot bigger. "In 2007, we had over 1,700 individual entries and nearly 3,000 took part in the relay - in 2008, we expect those numbers to grow to 8,000" the Race Chairman Jim O'Donovan is quoted as saying.
This race will take place on the 2nd of June, the bank holiday Monday. For anyone really eager, you can enter online from the 1st of November.

  1. Hi John,
What is really upsetting me is the way the relay events are organised. I have a few options for the committee.
    1. Let them off two hours before the main event.
    2. Let them run the opposite way around.
    3. Ban them alltogether like all good marathons.

I dont think there is even need for me to list the number of reasons why the relay runner is upsetting for the "start to finish" runner. Would like to hear how other people feel about this or is it just me!!

  2. Hi Liam
First of all, I have to say that I would be very much in favour of the relay in the Cork City Marathon.
Just one comment on your 2nd point..
    2. Let them run the opposite way around.
The Jack Lynch tunnel has to re-open for traffic by about 11:00-ish?? So, going in the opposite direction is not on. I'm sure that the stewarding would be very difficult and I'm guessing that there would probably be utter chaos on the day!! ;o)

Liam, maybe you could leave another Comment as to why you don't like the relay. I can then put it up as a seperate post (Wednesday or Thursday?) and I'll set out my reasons why I am in favour of the relay. We can then open it up for debate and see what others think.
