It's great that a small portion of the entry price is going to a good cause but €15 seems a bit excessive for a 5 mile road race.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of races are going to feel the pressure as the standard €10 entry fee for a race has been like that for years while costs have continued to go up.
ReplyDeleteThe Carrigaline race will have chip timing for the first time this year, a charity element and a full range of category prizes which all add up.
Nice race but I do believe 15 euros is steep. Considering they also get sponsorship...
ReplyDeleteIf you're someone who looks to compete in a road race every other week then these prices would hit the pocket very quickly. I'm sure chip timing makes the organisation of the race easier for the people who have to organise the race and I understand that but I don't think chip timing has a benefit to runners for any race that doesn't have a very large amount of entries. Category prizes are also irrelevant to the vast majority of the entrants.
ReplyDelete€15 is just too much to ask for a 5 miler.
ReplyDelete€5 is the right amount as proven by The Ballycotton Summer Series over many many years.
They had the right ethos, they set the example for others to follow, unfortunately too many clubs & organizations are jumping on the bandwagon by using road racing as a fundraising opportunity.
Adding to what the previous poster said, if you're a regular, you won't be attending those over-priced races anyway, hence the general overall below par finishing times across all grades.
it's easy to see why the park-runs have become so popular, just my tuppence worth anyhow, enjoy the running no matter where it takes you.
