A good day in Blarney with weather being kind and loads to eat. Results up online before I got home, so great organisation with the chip system.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant work by the pacers. Practically dragged me over the line to get inside 1.30...! Thanks so much for the encouragement. Mark
ReplyDeleteGreat to see the results up already and enjoyed the race, im just wondering did anyone else find the mile markers and overall course a bit short?
ReplyDeleteA very well organised race, thanks to all involved, especially the 1:45 pacers.
ReplyDeleteWell done to the pacers, brought me in under the 1:30 with more than five mins off PB. Great organisation, well done to all in St Finbarrs.
ReplyDeleteWell done st finbarrs on a very well organised event for a very reasonable entry fee.
ReplyDeleteYes the weather was kind, really enjoyed the run and the day,the garmin measured it as 12.6 so the course was a little short but it doesn't take from my enjoyment of the day.
ReplyDeletehad great day out. 1.30 pacers top class. my watch measuresd course at 12.95 miles. just wondering why no medals?
ReplyDeletehaving too short a course is not acceptable. totally in validates ones PB. last year i measured it as 13.2
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyable race. Thank you to the 1:45 pacers. They ran a good pace and were good fun during the race. My watch had the distance shorter as well but I know it lost satellite connection a few times under the trees so not sure if that was related or not. Mine showed as 13:04.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the 3 things that matter most to any runner who is striving to achieve a PB (which is most runner's goal) ? 1. Starting time recorded correctly. 2. Finishing time recorded correctly. 3. Course measured correctly.
ReplyDeleteAll of the other stuff (t-shirts, marshalling, refreshments) are welcome bonuses but bonuses only. Unless 1, 2 and 3 are achieved the race organisation is a failure. It looks the course yesterday was short. Waterford was long. Cork had no starting mats. Disappointing given the amount of effort that clearly went into race organisation yesterday
Races are measured by jones counter and not by garmins or other gps devices.Im sure it was accurately measured
ReplyDeleteLast year we started 200 metres back the road, and as far as i can work out ran exactly the same route , the turn seemed to be in the same place, so cannot figure out how it was going to be 13.1.
ReplyDeleteIts disappointing if thats the case...
It seemed to be a really fast day anyway yesterday which adds to the quick times..
How comes men always get trophies but women, not. Bit unfair isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteit's funny - people don't mind a short course it's the long ones they hate. seems sloppy to me
ReplyDeletewill those moaning about the distance please understand Garmins etc. use non-military GPS, there will always be a margin for error. If ye have any problems feel free to contact the commander-in-chief of the United States Armed Forces aka Obama.
ReplyDeleteHmm ok... so all the GPS watches were wrong? And the course is the same length as last year even though the only thing that seems to have moved (and I'm open to correction on this one) is the start line.
ReplyDeleteAnyone from the organisers want to post confirming that they are confident the course measurement was accurate last year and this year? I for one would be suitably reassured :)
Another person worried about the course measurement. 13.05 by my Garmin which even allowing for the direct line that's used when signal is lost, it still seems short.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure someone from the club is reading this, maybe some of the pacers..maybe a comment on this to put our minds at ease that the course was re-measured with the new starting line in place.
Dear Athletes,
ReplyDeleteI would like to confirm that the course was measured using the Jones Counter in accordance with IAAF guidelines.
To allay the concerns that have been expressed we will review the measurements and mile markers to ensure we have definitive measure for the half marathon distance.
We would like to thank everyone who took part in the race and everybody who provided us with feedback which we will do our best to incorporate into future editions of the event.
Yours in sport,
Cathal O’Connell
St Finbarr’s A.C.
Look, it was clearly short going by the position of the start line, period. Pb's are void . Roll on Charleville.
ReplyDeleteLets wait til we hear how short it was if short at all. You might still have a PB if you can do the maths! It's disappointing for everyone if the course was short but it was still a great day out and let's keep it in perspective, no one got hurt.
ReplyDeleteAre the county and Munster results for this marathon published somewhere????
ReplyDeletePs great race.
So a week on from St Finbar's statement, what is the verdict ? Was the course the full distance and if so, what is the explanation for the start line being apparently so far from the previous year's start line ?
