A list of the first 2,500 entries for the 2012 Ballycotton '10' has now been released.
You can view it HERE
From the organisers....As the 2,500 limit has been reached and as the closing date for AAI club and Summer Series has also expired, we ask people NOT to post any further entries unless they qualify through the overseas exemption (up to January 9th – this is only for people living overseas).
All unsuccessful applicants will have their entries and fees returned in the New Year. In the meantime, please remember that we don’t have a waiting list and also that under no circumstances can race numbers be transferred
Posted in GPO Tuesday evening and didn't get in. Ridiculous! And very doubtful there were 2500 genuine entries before me.
ReplyDeleteSame here. They didn't close the entries until the Thursday. Mine surely got there on the Wednesday morning. I guess it's their way of getting people to enter the summer series.
ReplyDeleteAh well have to go find other races to do.
As John has said previously if you missed the Tuesday evening post you were not guaranteed to get in. There were plenty of warnings about getting your entry posted on Tuesday afternoon. If you didn't post it in time for Tuesday afternoon post then hard luck. I'm getting sick of people whinging about the organisation of races run by volunteers. Put up or shut up!
ReplyDeleteAdvice for all those disappointed entries why not enter the Kilnaboy 10 mile road race on Sunday 8th April 2012 .Great race in the heart of the Burren
ReplyDeleteposted mine monday evening. blast. thems the breaks. gutted
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean if you are an AAI club member and posted your form yesterday that you were too late?
ReplyDeletethe 3rd comment doesn't have a clue. i posted mine on tueday morning so it's like jobs for the boys if you ask me
ReplyDeleteIts the same every year.....Dont blame Ballycotton organisers.....Its no-ones fault. Its just the way it happens. It could be anything.I believe them to be fair.
ReplyDeleteWhy Did ye not enter weeks ago , then there would be no excuse and complaining!
ReplyDeleteits just the luck of the draw guys!!!easy for me to say , i was successful!!!
ReplyDeleteSettle folks, this Ballycotton bashing has got out of control. I posted on Monday evening in the GPO in Cork and am a member of an AAI club and still didn't get in. No big deal, those are the breaks! Many other 10 mile races one can enter, Dungarvan, Mallow or Kilnaboy as examples. Having done them all they each have their own merits and you can expect a much faster time in Dungarvan and Mallow. Ok Ballycotton may have that special "atmosphere" and if you still want to experience that why not go along as a volunteer or spectator?
ReplyDeleteRan in 3 of the four summer series, posted my entry on Wednesday and didn't get in, was entered and in last year and got injured and missed out, my number and stuff even arrived by post... doubly gutted
ReplyDeleteSF
Dont think they have a clue how to organise a race. Had done summer series previous year and entered on time only to not get in, after numerous emails got in. posted early post on the tues this year ( hadn't done summer series) and haven't got in. Have no idea what they are doing with the entries butdoesn't seem fair to me. having said that only do it because of the talk about it, don't particularly enjoy the race. plenty of better local races about. Wont be trying to do it again or the summer series
ReplyDeleteSlightly gutted, completed the Summer Series with 3 mates and we had our applications in well on time, c'est la vie, but will be running 10 miles on the day at 1.30pm in my favourite Coilte trail off the Dungourney/Tallow Road, no early starts, dubious portaloos, traffic congestion or lingering around. Roll on Ballyandreen and the "beast" in May !
ReplyDeletePlease remember that this is the FIRST 2,500 entries, not all of the entries. If you ran all 4 races in the Summer series in 2011, you ticked the box on the form and you signed the disclaimer then you should be in ok.
ReplyDeleteAlso posted on gpo on Tuesday and did not get in even though work colleagues posted on wed and did get in. There needs to be a different system to allow for those of us who have been entering for years. Impossible to complete 4 races in the summer unless you take no summer holidays.
ReplyDeleteWhats with all the hate? It's my first year trying to enter, entry was sent in before last post on tuesday evening and got in. Are people confident they dropped it to the GPO before last post? Unless it hit the sorting office that night, then you were in a lottery with everyone else who posted on wednesday as to who got their entries opened first. And as John said, and has point out repeatedly throughout this whole entry period, if you're a member of an AAI club and/or ran the summer series then you'll probably get in on the next release of numbers.
ReplyDeletePeople are getting into a panic and freaking out when all they have to do is read the first few lines of the race number pdf.
I'll quote Johns post from monday for reference:
"Just a reminder that the next closing date for Ballycotton '10' entries is next Thursday, the 15th of December. Entries are now only open to the following eligible runners...
1) Members of AAI registered athletic clubs
2) Anyone who completed all 4 of the Ballycotton Summer Series races.
Entries received up to and including Thursday will be accepted. So if you haven't posted your entry form then do so straight away!"
I don't know what the fuss is all about, anyway, Ballycotton is completely over-rated!
ReplyDeleteIf you want to run a great 10 miler, enter Dungarvan. You don't have to arrive at dawn, you're guaranteed to get in, the goody bag is great (no poxy mug!), it's a fast course, the food afterwards is epic, you're not told where to park, you don't have to stand on the start line for half an hour and there's showers.
It's a no-brainer - dump Ballycotton and do Dungarvan instead!
Mallow and Kilnaboy are really good alternatives too
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the fuss is all about, anyway, Ballycotton is completely over-rated..........clearly someone didnt get it!!!!! :) no need to be so nasty. a lot of thought and effort goes into that race and i've ran it befoe and it is NOT over rated. its a great day out.......
ReplyDeleteGreat race with great atmosphere that is run by a great committee. So many races at present are dominated by greedy organisers trying to rake in as much money as possible( Rock N Roll been a prime example).
ReplyDeleteThe good people running Ballycotton could easily up the charge of entry as a way to reduce entry numbers. Alternatively they could increase the numbers allowed to enter. If they did either then the race would loose some of its allure.
Its a great race and that why a road race based in a little village on the coast draws people from all over Ireland as well as further afield.
I can appreciate people’s frustrations at not getting a race number but inevitable some people will be disappointed.
Do you know if entries from N. Ireland are considered to be from "overseas"!? Apparently mail from North to South is considered international and goes to a holding centre in Coventry before being sent back across the Irish sea again to Dublin. Crazy but true.
ReplyDeleteJust curious because I sent my entry from Belfast on Wednesday the 30th but I'm not in the first 2,500
From what I know, entries from Northern Ireland are not treated as overseas.
ReplyDeleteThere is obviously going to be disappointment when like myself people who posted before last post on Tuesday didn't get in. It's Archaic in this day and age that I had to go so far out of my way to get it in before last post on Tuesday anyway!! Has anyone heard of the bloody Internet?? Last time i run or waste my time entering Ballycotton! Dungarvan and Cobh are far better races!!
ReplyDeleteFolks,
ReplyDeleteEnough of the sour grapes etc. Ballycotton is an experience, not just a race. The entry fee is reasonable in today's terms. John & his committee in Ballycotton do a brilliant job, traffic control etc is expertly organised. Why don't disappointed applicants join an AAI club and enter the 2013 well before the later deadline? Apart from increasing your Ballycotton entry chances, you get the benefits which membership of a club brings....... .......organised training, advice, friendship, team events etc. Again, the club membership fees are reasonable and my experience is that they're well worth it.
if you are a member of an aai club and your entry is in before dec15 deadline is there a 2nd list of entries for club members
ReplyDeleteThe second list has not been released yet.
