Skibbereen race numbers drop 40%...

For many years, there was a 10km road race held in Skibbereen in West Cork but the numbers were very poor. In 2018, a new 10 miler was launched with a 5 mile race as well at the same time and it seemed to do moderately well for its first year. This year however, the overall numbers have collapsed by 40%.

The poor weather obviously wouldn't have helped but that doesn't account for such a large drop.

The races in West Cork are a bit of a mixed bag in recent years. Some do pretty well but others have dwindled away.

Very well organised event, well done to all involved. There was a friendly atmosphere and a great spread of food afterwards

Great event, thoroughly enjoyable and hosted by a super bunch of people. It's a shame the weather hurt the numbers because the route is excellent and deserves a good turnout. Thanks to everyone who stood out in the rain to make it possible. Can't wait for next year.

This is a great race on a lovely course - particularly the final two downhill miles! It deserves a lot more support.
