Runner in Canada detained for two weeks after crossing US border by accident

French student Cedella Roman aged 19 was out running on a beach in Canada recently and accidentally crossed into the United States. When she turned around to run back, she was apprehended by two U.S. Border Patrol officers.

As can be seen from the photo below, the border isn't marked on the beach.

Instead of being escorted back to the border, she was instead imprisoned for two weeks in a detention centre 125 miles from the border. When asked about the ordeal, the student said...“An officer stopped me and started telling me I had crossed the border illegally. I told him I hadn’t done it on purpose, and that I didn’t understand what was happening. I said to myself, well I may have crossed the border but they’ll probably only give me a fine, or they’ll tell me to go back to Canada or they’ll give me a warning.”
