Athletics Ireland release entry list by club for the 2016 Dublin City Marathon

Athletics Ireland have just released the entry list by club for the 2016 Dublin City Marathon which also doubles up as the National Marathon Championships. You can see it HERE

These are the Cork clubs entered by size...

As you can see, Eagle AC with 47 entries are the largest club from Cork with Watergrasshill AC at 45 just behind. They are followed by St.Finbarr's AC at 30, Mallow AC at 29, Grange Fermoy AC at 24, Youghal AC at 23 and Midleton AC at 20.

You can also note the changes from 2015. In most cases, the level of entries from Cork clubs is greater.

On a national level, West Waterford AC top the list with 150 members entered!

In terms of other club entries from Munster (40+), Clonmel AC have 57 and Waterford AC have 45.

That is interesting. How many from Cork entered who are belonging to no athletics club?

I'm not sure if there is any way of knowing where all the entrants came from. Even the results just show the clubs.

I'd suspect that for every club runner from Cork, there is at least another one who is not a member of a club.

Interesting stat on Watergrasshill alright. They've over doubled their entrants since last year.
Any Watergrasshill member like to shed light on it for us ? It would be interesting to hear.

From a Watergrasshill perspective, the club is going from strength to strength. And it's interesting that we have so many long distance runners. With this year being the centenary year for Dublin there was always going to be big interest in it.
There is massive support for members looking to take on a marathon , be it for the first time or to improve on a time. There are training plans, runs , advice and support circulated throughout the club weekly, so the prospect of a marathon is beyond no member. There is great comradary within the club and our colours are so distinctive, at the races you never feel alone.
We are delighted to have so many taking part in Dublin and Best of luck to all the clubs heading to the "big smoke" this year!!!
