A record entry of 835 people turned out for this years Ballintotis 4 mile road race in East Cork, up 13% on last year. That's an incredible number and it shows just how strong running is in the general Cork area.
Olympic Silver medalist Sonia O'Sullivan being interviewed before the race

This was the 4th year of this particular race, having replaced the old 4 mile race in Castlemartyr back in 2010. Every year since, the numbers have grown...

Nice race but the t shirts were terrible. If race organisers are still giving out cotton t shirts they should at least be good quality.I have aready put me into the clothes recycling.

Excellent event from the minute you get to Ballintotis until you head away. Brilliant organization & support by the whole community.Top event in the calender. The fact that it is a flat course only adds to it. Well done !!!

My 1st time doing this race and I must say it was spot on from start to finish. The great community atmosphere is what makes this race. Well done to all involved and I will be back again next year.

With regards to the 1st comment about the t-shirts - The cost of the race was €10 what did you expect? I was glad to have it as it kept me warm after the race.

Just wondering was the course slightly over the 4 miles

that was some headwind on the main road!!!!

Ran race last night in Ballintotis. Atmosphere brilliant. Stewards excellent. Hats off to the organisers. Fantastic evening for 10 euro - Race, T-Shirt, Water, the best catering I ever got at a race and meeting Sonia!!! Will definitely be there next year.

Yes, the course is accurate. If your GPS watch says that it was slightly longer than the measured course then that's always a good sign. GPS measurements on race courses are nearly always short.

Fantastic race, I thought the roped in start areas was a fantastic idea, and really worked well, hopefully might see it in the Ballycotton series.

The option to register early was also excellent.

As for the quality of the T-shirts, for €10 I wouldn't expect one, to get one of an quality is a bonus.

I clocked 4.02 on my gps, so I suspect the course is spot on!

Agree with Tim Mc Carthy. What do you expect for €10.
Brilliant race, start worked well and what a community atmosphere and spirit. Everyone was involved. The line of stewards on the Main Road was more stewards than most races will have for the entire course. Well done John Cashman and your HUGE team.

Excellent race, roping off the start area was a great idea though a few people underestimated their times but you can't help that. Is there any contact details re the results, they appear to have misheard my first name (it's completely wrong) and misspelt my surname ?

If your name is wrong then just send me an e-mail with your details.

Great race ran by a fantastic team of friendly, helpful people all giving freely of their time.C annot believe earlier complaint about t-shirt quality i suspect this person may be thinking about a dri fit t shirt from a half marathon but has failed to mention that it costs at least'45euro' to enter such a race.I salute John,Sean and their team and will wear my souvenir t-shirt from the Ballintotis 4 proudly!!

Great community spirit at the Ballintotis 4 once again. Well done to all involved I had a really enjoyable evening. Thanks.
Just a thought re: Lucy above. A jog around the stalls on the Coal Quay on Saturday morning with 10 euro should put your cotton T-shirt into perspective.

A brilliantly organised and run race. There are no negatives in my book, the trill of running along our best ever Irish athlete Sonia only added to the occasion. Top marks to John Cashman and all the community at Ballintotis, the atmosphere and spirit was great.

Its the little things that make this a great opener to the evening race calender;
The amount of registration desks.
The 4 safety pins already grouped together.
The zones at the beginning.
The mile markers up on a post, nice and high so they can't be missed.
The support from the local community.

Just a fantastic event - brilliant system with the ropes to separate times at the start - saved all the problems of congestion from last year, great atmosphere, fantastic course, excellently marshalled - great T shirt - just a brilliant event - parking well supervised - just a great night and a great experience. Well done to you all.

Ran it last year and it was my favourite race, didnt know why.ran it again this year and now I know why! To hear the laughter and banter before during and after the race ncluding the commentary, where would you get it?It really is the race that marks the beginning of the summer series.brilliant. Thanks to sonia and all on your fundraising efforts.

I thoroughly enjoyed this race. Both my friend and I said it was €10 very well spent.I could not fault the whole thing. Where is that person coming from with the T-shirt complaint? I thought it was a BRILLIANT surprise to even get a t-shirt. Well done all the welcoming people of Ballintotis

I enjoyed the race my second time doing it and 4 minutes better. Great to see Sonia supporting it. Looking forward to next year and my new t-shirt.

Cheers john and the crew who put this top race together! What a great start with zoned sections, super organisation and a bonus to see the yellow mile flags! Great idea instead of waiting for garmin to beep or spend time looking on ground for them! What a start to the "summer" races!

great race and time zones worked excellent lets hope ballycotton summer series can learn from this.

Have to say a huge well done too John Cashman and everyone involved. It was my first time racing in Ballintotis and I will be back again next year. The start was very well organised and as for the T-shirt I was delighted with it.The atmosphere in the hall was electric afterwards and their was plenty of tea/coffee and food. Great to see Sonia their. I suppose she will be a regular every year now !!!!!

What can I say, I didn't think that it was possible to improve from last year. But John, Sean and team you did it! The timed zones worked brilliantly at the start and well marshalled, with people going up and down before the start making sure you were in the correct time zone. The slow walk to the start made sure there wasn't a big rush as well. Definitely the best organised race out there. Great community spirit, great commentry by John Cashman and great spread in the community centre. And the chance to run with living legend Sonia O'Sullivan... I will tell my grandkids that I came in ahead of her!!! And a t-shirt thrown in. Thanks again, looking forward to next April already...

Wouldnt have expected a t-shirt and of such quality too. Wearing my one with pride!

well done to john and sean for carrying on a stong tradition in east cork of putting on 1st class events at an affordable price. Big 'clap on the back' to Josie Knowles, Jean O Gorman and their army of volounteers for the catering etc. also the landowners giving their land for parking especially during this difficult growing season.

Came from Cork City to run this race for the first time as I had heard so much about it last year. Now I understand what all the raving was about. From the time I arrived it was a great evening. The Stewards, the parking including the lighting on the way back, the registration, the start line and most importantly I went home well fed from the fantastic after race refreshments! Well done to the organisers and all involved - hope to be there again next year.
